MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS: FROM WIRELESS LANS TO 4G NETWORK’S

Many people in today’s culture carry a variety of portable
devices, such as laptops, mobile phones, personal digital assistants
(PDAs), and mp3 players, for use in both their professional and
personal lives. These devices may be used for a variety of purposes.
The vast majority of the time, these devices are used in isolation; to
put it another way, the programs that are designed for them do not
interact with one another. If, on the other hand, they were able to
connect with one another directly, for example, participants at a
conference might trade studies or presentations with one another,
and all communication could be automatically routed via the
wireless corporate campus network. It is possible that these
occurrences of spontaneous Ad Hoc wireless connections between
devices may be grouped informally as a scheme, which is often
referred to as Ad Hoc networking. Through the use of this system, it
is possible for devices to establish communication with one another
at any time and in any place, without the need for a centralized
infrastructure. In addition to providing an overview of the mobile
ad hoc networking (MANET) idea, this article also highlights a few
of the prospective applications of this technology that may be
developed in the future. The article also examines two of the
technical challenges that MANET introduces, which are referred to
as Geocasting and Quality of Service.
